Quickies for May 2014

Teddy Bear (2012) ✭✭✭1/2

A hilarious and, yes, heartbreaking story of a Danish weightlifter's search for love. Stars former champion body builder Kim Kold as our lonely hero, and he's very good in this tailor-made role. If you like dry Scandinavian humor, give Teddy Bear a try, and a hug.

Worth watching for Ezra Miller - who is brillant as the androgynous Patrick - but the movie eventually disappoints. Its 8.2 rating on IMDB puts it in Citizen Kane territory. This is what happens when teenagers are allowed to rate movies.

Ainsi Soient-ils (2012)✭✭✭✭✭

Excellent French TV mini-series about the secrets of a Paris seminary, told through the eyes of a diverse group of young men in training for the priesthood. Gripping and intense, a second season is in the works. Hopefully Netflix will get this one day. Title translates as "So They Are."

Everyone Else (2009)✭✭1/2
